Emergency Accommodation
For You as a Tentant
Emergency accommodation is a last-resort and temporary solution for new students who have nowhere to live when the semester begins.
The nature of the emergency accommodation varies and can range from an empty apartment with a mattress on the floor to a private room in a house or a place to sleep on someone’s sofa.
Please remember that emergency accommodation is a temporary solution while you wait for a short-term contract through ÖBO’s housing guarantee program or find more permanent housing on your own.HO
The rent for emergency accommodation is SEK 800 per commenced 7-day period.
The rent is the same for all emergency accommodation options, regardless of their standard, location, or type.
As a tenant, you pay this amount via Swish to the Örebro Student Union, which in turn pays the host/landlord once the rental period has ended.
All rental agreements within the emergency accommodation program are temporary and are intended primarily to help you secure a roof over your head while you arrange more permanent housing.
How Do I Get Emergency Accommodation?
To be eligible for emergency accommodation, you must:
- Be a new student at Örebro University.
- Be a member of the Örebro Student Union.
- Be registered in ÖBO’s housing guarantee queue or be able to provide proof of a signed contract for other accommodation.

Please remember to bring or be able to provide:
Proof that you are registered in ÖBO’s housing guarantee program or documentation of another housing contract.
Proof of your student union membership.
Your admission letter from Örebro University.
What Is Included in the Emergency Accommodation?
As a tenant, you must of course have a place to sleep. Therefore, the emergency accommodation must provide a bed, mattress, or sofa. You must also have access to facilities for cooking and maintaining personal hygiene.
Naturally, the accommodation should not be overcrowded. The Örebro Student Union uses a guideline of a maximum of two people per 18 square meters, which corresponds to the size of a typical student corridor room.
As a tenant, you are expected to exercise common sense and basic courtesy. For example, you should not invite guests over or host parties without first obtaining permission from your host. You are also expected to respect your host and understand that they may have a different daily routine from your own if you are sharing the accommodation.
Please note that toilet paper, food, bed linen, and similar personal items are not included in the emergency accommodation. As a tenant, you are responsible for providing these items yourself.
For You as a Host
Would you like to help new students by offering one or more of them a temporary place to stay?
Hosts receive compensation of SEK 800 per student for each commenced week until the student finds their own accommodation.
The compensation is paid to the host’s bank account as a lump-sum payment after the emergency accommodation program has ended for the semester.
The requirements for hosting a new student are not extensive. All that is required is a bed, mattress, or sofa, as well as access to bathroom facilities and the ability to prepare meals.

Submitting an application does not commit you to hosting a student. We will always contact you beforehand to confirm that you are still willing and able to accommodate a student.
Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that everyone who registers as a host will have their accommodation matched with a student.
A rental agreement will only be drawn up once you have been matched with a student who has been approved for emergency accommodation.
